Ever since being home, my schedule has changed dramatically. I did make sure to keep the highly busy lifestyle that I got used to downstate, but now I'm not running from work to class to work to homework to my sorority. And my days no longer include coffee shops stops at any of my five favorite coffee shops (which happened to be all in the same vicinity, how did I ever choose.. well it was the tough decision of every morning, that's for sure). My days also don't include my frequent stops at JoAnn's, the Bead Gallery, or Target. I did loved being able to get what I need when I need it, especially materials. Eric's mom is probably thinking I'm crazy for all the mail I get!

Doing Work!
I have been incredibly busy, because when you apply to 274 jobs and they all end up getting back to you three months later all at the same time, it can get wild quickly! As of now, I have 3 part-time gigs to sustain my lifestyle (online shopping, Caesar salad, coffee and Amazon Prime). This is the investment I need for my new business! So after working all week as a librarian and fill-in receptionist and then prepping for my illustrator course all weekend, Gahh! I was finally able to play with my newly ordered supplies and materials, porcupine quills galore. Wahoo!
Working with Muslin is Key!
Finally, I put together my Tribal Cloak and am so excited to share it. It is a super simple, chic design that is created from a cheap fleece blanket (in my case), which I decided to destroy before tearin' into a very expensive Pendleton Blanket. I am even more excited that this muslin came out so well! Muslin, in sewing terms basically means sewing a mock up with cheaper fabric to test a new garment. I have been thinking about this design for awhile and happy to see it coming to life! A little different than I originally seen in my head, but just as cool!
Today Was a StruggleIt has been one of the toughest days I have had in a while. I truly felt the post-college blues today. It has been 4 months since I have graduated and it has actually been pretty good since. I try not to focus on others success because it would honestly eat me alive. If I didn't have my family for reassurance it would be a rough 120 days. It can get a little complicated and hard, when you don't have the guarantee of work and money. I have been working since 12 years old and I know how to get a job, but the wait after distributing about 20 different and personalized cover letters and resume can become daunting. I don't lose hope though, I just apply again. I Put a Spell on You!
It all started at my Nana's house, in her crowded living room filled with collector christmas villages and small vintage houses. In between the old cabbage patch dolls and bags of scattered food (she is the one you want to visit during an apocalypse). My Nana lived through hard times: war, depression, and "female domestication at it's prime", to name a few. I am so proud she is now taking back her independence!
...but now back to the 90's at her house, I would plopped down in my own little chair. Where I watched my first ever witch movie, forever blowing my mind and ultimately changing my game for life! Apartment 3
Our beautiful little home, I can't believe Eric and I found such a gem in Baraga County! These last two weeks we have been working hard on moving out of his mothers and we our so excited to announce we have our own space! After moving our things and readjusting to living together again (due to the long distance, my schooling, and his work in our relationship) we came upon or maybe this place landed in our laps. Searching around, plus high expectations to live up because of my newest bourgeoisie lifestyle. I am used to modern studio apartments and newly renovated dorms of Ann Arbor. Finding a place in the small town of Baraga County that is on the reservation and isn't a house is hard. Living on the reservation would have been ideal and I don't think we are ready for a home and mortgage, so for now changing our Facebook relationship status and dealing with Eric's love for his kitties is enough commitment at the moment! El Torito and Narco (the beloved cats) have not moved in with us yet, but we will have to see. I'm am still a little hesitant #teamdog...
Fresh lighting, white walls, great storage everywhere, space for a studio, and a family outdoor seating area AKA "a porch or a cement slab that is awkwardly placed before our driveway": was all I was asking for! I think I have been watching a little to much HGTV, but we happened to find those qualities and a great price at that. We really wanted a Tree House or a Tiny Home, but Apartment 3 will just have to do! |
