Gold Collection

A Little Sparkle

My first piece always is for a friend, a unique gem that is inspired by their aesthetic, personality, and/or magic. I've heard from a few traditionally you give your first creation as a gift, an offering. This collection started, in the same manner, one gift stemming into these six sparkling beauties. I first created a Mandala "Manoomin" Wild Rice for a colleague for her Birthday, my first friend in graduate school. We were the "Angels of Harlem" my mom would say, as we were both far from home and living in Harlem. My present for her to carry home.

My priority is making to carry home.

The Gold Collection is six shimmering jewels brushed of gold foil born to shine. Each touch of gold produces a twinkle when wearing with a similar smooth texture as my other pieces. Below are my gorgeous cousins to model to assist in capturing all the glimmer and rawness. Miigwetch, thank you for being exactly yourselves, Sydni Voakes & Ti'ia Friisvall!

New York City & Kitties

New York City

Well I have arrived! Officially it has been a month since I made it a little after 2AM to Central Harlem. Alongside my very tired best friend and my very anxious kitties, we scrambled to the city and picked up my keys from my boo, who seriously saved my life - giving me insight to the borough to checking my potential apartments out in person for me to meeting the broker. Find you a boo, but I thank him so much for creating my move so comforting! Anywho, back to Harlem, we park next to a nightclub (already a bad idea), but take parking where you can get it! Tell me you wouldn’t crack up, if you saw two wild ladies who just drove 10 hours that day, rolling suitcases and scared cats passed the bumping music. While I won't lie we were quite the funny looking scene and that's the first on many million times of cat calling. I swear I started this city on catcalling and will roll out to a cat call. We passed the McDonalds, which more poppin' then the club. We reach the building in relief, the kitties now restless, we put the keys in the door and they did not work! At the that moment we are not only culture shocked at the new environment, but we are tripping and the cats are tripping. Ginger jams keys and the door for a minute like we were straight out the rez, two girls trying to sneak back in after we snuck out. Thank the Creator, it worked, we rolled up one flight of stairs to my new humble abode. We opened the door to the smallest box, I ever seen, we ever seen. Releasing the kitties to their new existence, the floor was cool, but the end of August heat lingered. We made it, I wanted to cry, but the exhaustion was more powering. We slept on the floor and in the heat, like nothing new, because journey made up for the destination.

I am going to share a few tips, that might be relevant to moving to NYC or any city or maybe any transition in general.

Cedar Green, Cozy Layers of Knit, & Maxi Grunge

Wearing the "Cedar Awakening" Collection

Though... October is for getting extra dark and cozy. Everything is an acceptable and fair game, no excuses why you're wearing lipsticks named Dead of Knight, Exorcism and LUV, Bloodmilk and Magical Unicorn...

Even if Magical Unicorn lips are a one night stand, you know what remains timeless!? A little TLE, the unique Tashina Lee Emery original's that no matter the season you can wear my work, and of course... black. But, please do, remain tempted and rock spooky maxi's and know that fuzzy, sleepy nap-time layers are always a must this season especially. Although, mysterious and cozy are two extremes opposite of the October spectrum, they both look fabulous with the Cedar Awakening collection - which happens to be my all time favorite earring!

Post-Graduation: The Daunting 6 Month Mark

...And Student Loans are Coming in Hot!

I recently graduated from the University of Michigan this past May with a Degree in Art & Design! This November marks the start of repaying my student loans. It has finally begun to come - in the mail, consistent calling, and throughout my emails. My student loans! They are the reminder that I have officially reached the end of an era. I am officially six months deep into post-grad life. Life after college stands filled with harsh wake-up calls (literally, cause I suck at getting up and Eric or his mom is calling my phone at 7 am). I'd love to share what I have learned so far, especially what I have learned from graduating with an Art & Design Degree.

Life during college came with a set of instructions, a laid out schedule and places to be. Whether that was good, great, stressful, and just terrible at times, there seemed to be consistency. Like I knew Fall break was just around the corner or that I had a sorority full of the amazing woman I could go running too. Fours years later and the University of Michigan "process" or balance of dealing with classes on top of work on top of running a sorority on top of having a social life is ingrained deeply. That sounds like the real world in a nutshell, but while in school you get to claim the identity of "student," which helps! You are a student, and apart of a cultural, in my case a "U of M" cultural.

Sorry for the Wait

I feel like a Drake album or maybe it wasLil' Wayne. Now I have to go listen to Drake's new mixtape while I write.. any who starting a business is very complicated! I knew a little coming into the field of online entrepreneurship, but I am the type of person who needs to be fully prepared for any situation. If I am traveling on vacation or for business, I will pack 8 pairs of shoes just incase. In my purse on any given day, I make sure to always I have my mac, Ipad, calendar, and sketch pad (Yes! I have a huge purse!). Sometimes, I feel the need to carry my beading carryon or makeup bag as well. Who am I kidding, I really do travel with three bags anywhere I go: to my moms, to the grocery store, etc. I just want to make sure I have whatever I need for inspiration.

For my business or anything new I do, that means I need to do my research. Studying hard, rummaging other blogs, looking at other online stores and making sure I have checklists to make it all come together. About 4 months ago, I honestly didn't know where to even start this journey and I assumed it started with a product and a need for that item. That is the truth, but there is so much more that goes into that one amazing product before it even reaches a shop.
