When I was Blonde..
I hope this new year comes as fresh, bold and the most important fun, as 2015 did.
When I was Blonde..
I started the year as a blonde and ended it as a dark-haired vixen ready to conquer whatever life hands me next. Technically, I don't think life is giving me anything too much (not anything I can't handle), but rather, it is what I personally am diving head first into! I am the one who tends to take on to much, usually, watches too many seasons of Breaking Bad (or all the Resident Evil movies). But 2015 was good to me, as every year before it, was too! Surprisingly. I can honestly say I'm wayyyy up; I feel blessed. I hope you read that in a Drake and Big Sean voice.
I hope this new year comes as fresh, bold and the most important fun, as 2015 did.

Coming to the Shop this Friday!12/18/2015
The Exquisite Birch collection has been harvested in a meaningful way, literally from my backyard. Sustaining in unforgiving climates, the birch tree is a natural pioneer in the Great Lakes Region. The high-shine, lightweight collection is simply exquisite. The coating that incases the Birch Bark, acts like a sap preserving the bark. The material inside is raw and sealed in an amber-like casing. The silvery white bark gives a striking appearance on the outside. The inside of the bark is a deep peach color. Both the front and the back tell different stories of the tree's personal existence, like a finger print. Preserving a natural history and like the layers that build the Birch tree the bark speaks a beautiful truth.
Shop the collection this Friday and make sure to get your order in asap, to ensure your pair is delivered right in time for Christmas! Local Pick up is available too! What I Learned from my First Vendor Experience!
I'll spit it to ya straight! The TV 6 Christmas Craft Show an amazing experience and the crowds were huge! The three day show was very busy and each opening morning had lines out the doors! The NMU Superior Dome was packed with vendors selling anything from cookies, jam, salsa, jerky to wood fixtures, snow globes, ornaments, mittens, pet treats and wreaths to accessories, apparel, and jewelry. Out of the hundreds of venders, I was somewhere in the midst of it all back in the third row, next to a cool "wood signage guy" and a lovely "soap and lotions woman"! They booth were very friendly and super helpful. I would link to their work but, the cool "wood signage guy" is working on getting online (which I gave him some helpful tips). As for the "soap and lotions woman" I am blanking at the moment! Gah!
...And Student Loans are Coming in Hot!
I recently graduated from the University of Michigan this past May with a Degree in Art & Design! This November marks the start of repaying my student loans. It has finally begun to come - in the mail, consistent calling, and throughout my emails. My student loans! They are the reminder that I have officially reached the end of an era. I am officially six months deep into post-grad life. Life after college stands filled with harsh wake-up calls (literally, cause I suck at getting up and Eric or his mom is calling my phone at 7 am). I'd love to share what I have learned so far, especially what I have learned from graduating with an Art & Design Degree.
Life during college came with a set of instructions, a laid out schedule and places to be. Whether that was good, great, stressful, and just terrible at times, there seemed to be consistency. Like I knew Fall break was just around the corner or that I had a sorority full of the amazing woman I could go running too. Fours years later and the University of Michigan "process" or balance of dealing with classes on top of work on top of running a sorority on top of having a social life is ingrained deeply. That sounds like the real world in a nutshell, but while in school you get to claim the identity of "student," which helps! You are a student, and apart of a cultural, in my case a "U of M" cultural. It is Official
I started "tashinaemery.com" as a professional portfolio during Professional Practice Course, last October, while finishing my Senior year at the University of Michigan. I have worked so hard on turning it into my vision of a Boutique specializing in Indigenous fashion and storytelling. The past fourth months were focusing primarily on my craft and writing. I am beyond excited and happy to have my work available to the community and public.
I can envision my Winter 2015 Collection and future work becoming the connection of two worlds merging, the modern with the natural. All my work tends to encompass the world I grew up in (on a small reservation in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan) with the touches of my Native American roots and integrates my fresh perspective, acquired knowledge and sophisticated style gained from exploration and travel these past few years. My work comes together to represent privilege and discourse. Illustrating the first encounter of new two worlds, a replaying of clashing cultures and what derives from it. Buy Native, Stay Authentic and Shop my trendy, one of a kind jewelry! Shop the Winter 2015 Collection "Sealed in Ice" Now! #SealedInIce #TLEjewelry #TashinaLeeEmery The Tricks and Treats of Halloween
Surprisingly, it was Eric and I's first Halloween together because usually I was at school downstate. We had so much fun this year and I am not going to lie and say Halloween is my favorite holiday, but that's only because I LOVVVE EVERY holiday. Actually, I should get even more specific and say I love any day where I get to dress up, eat, and be with family. I also love hosting and planning parties. I'm pretty sure I was granted the gift of party planning. I will turn anything occasion into a party (The finale of American Horror Story Party coming soon)!
I do believe I go a little too hard, but when I commit to something, I go all out. Especially for Halloween, I have had so many ideas this year is was hard to decide what I wanted to be! I started out thinking I would be Selena Quintanilla (who is one of biggest influences), then I was like I should incorporate my hunnie. I decided we could try, Johnny and June because they are true icons of country! It would pay tribute to my love for country music. After a lot of debate we decided on Jack and Sally and Kim and Kanye! Two extremely different couples! |
