Blue Berry Shell Earrings "Zhawenim"
Zhawenim - bless, pity h/; have mercy, compassion for h/; show loving-kindess, unconditional love for h/
The Zhawinim Collection is inspired by the woodland berries of my home in northern Michigan. These gems are the zhawenim unconditional love for my rural Reservation along Lake Superior. I cherish the memories of growing up with the sweetness of berry picking during the end of summer with my mother, or every ceremony's feast making sure to have these little healing berries at the table.
I usually shy away from manipulating my raw traditional materials and also like to stay away from bold colors. I don't even like color in tattoos. I prefer letting nature's innate beauty come through instead. I love the natural world's aesthetic and imperfections, I chose to share the Creator's strategy and intentional allure behind each material I work with. Following in a similar manner of matching the more organic style of finding gems or materials in my backyard. I mimicked the organic quality still with the use of fruit-like colors and testing a new water color technique. Being from the Great Lakes region, I appreciate the waves of saturation in each gem. And I am obsessed and excited to explore even more shades and blends now.

Please note the materials encased are natural and come from the earth. There will be "flaws" and "mistakes". I intentionally seek the imperfect, and personally love raw beauty. Each piece of jewelry will not look like the photo because your jewelry is unique, however I try to make the jewelry as close to the photo as I can. Each piece is made by hand and not a machine so tiny bubbles, bumps and slight imperfections are part of the unique characteristics of the jewelry.
Love our Mother Earth as we love our own Mothers. Protect her at all costs. To save her…We save ourselves.
